Special Mention: Aloud
A twelve-year old boy, torn between his desire for safety and a youth’s inner rebellion, finds a way to create power and his own voice out of the disappointments of his life as an orphan.
Stylistically confident in a historical setting, ‘Aloud’ tells Arden’s touching story from a boy’s perspective and brings us painfully near to his sense of loss. The adults remain distanced and a constant source of disappointment. In the final shot, the film achieves a great magical movie moment full of emotional depth.
