AYSHA
AYSHA (10), who is wearing a full-body veil, sits in the backyard of a house in Rojava, Syria. While she plays with a slingshot, her SISTER (11) joins her.
Both are put to test that morning by a woman (38) who is also wearing a full-body veil. They have to cite verses from the Quran. While Asyha’s older sister passes the test exemplary, Aysha is having trouble. Unlike her sister, she is rebellious and rejects the role of a girl imposed on her. This incurs the woman’s displeasure, who is not reluctant to use violence. Aysha finally understands the gravity of the situation.

Cengiz Akaygün, director and author, lives and works in Stuttgart and has made 5 short films since 2014, which have received multiple awards worldwide. In 2020 he was nominated twice for the Human Rights Film Award in Germany. October 2021 his last film >>Aysha<< celebrated its German premiere at the Hofer Filmtage and has since won several awards. He is currently working on his first feature film, which he will realize in 2023.
