Samuel Auer was born in Hamburg on August 1st, 1986. He discovered his love for films at an early age and since he was 11, he watched several movies a week. After his community service, he traveled a year through North America, before starting his studies in Communication Science and History in Erfurt. This also where he shot his first short films and his passion changed from only watching to directing itself. He went on to do various film-specific internships on sets, as well as at the Filmfest Hamburg, in the postproduction company Arri Schwarzfilm and for the online film magazine Filmstarts.de. Since 2012, he is studying at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB), where he has produced several shorts that have gone to a variety of national and international festivals, namely Interfilmfest Berlin and Palm Springs International Shortfest.
